About Me
I became a birth doula in 2010, and am certified through DONA International. I am trained in/familiar with both the Lamaze and Bradley methods of childbirth and have had the honor of providing labor support at dozens of births occurring in various settings, including hospitals, birthing centers, and homes. I am also trained in neonatal resuscitation (AAP/AHA NRP), as well as adult, child, and infant CPR. In 2012, I began working as an assistant to a local CPM. The following year brought even more opportunities as I started providing doula services through the Nashville Volunteer Doula Group, which serves clients of the Vanderbilt Nurse-Midwives. Later that same year, I began working with a group of four other doulas, providing labor support services through Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. In addition to providing doula services through the hospitals and working as a midwife assistant, I continue to take private doula clients, thoroughly enjoying the close relationship we are able to develop as we work together before, during, and after, their birth experiences.
Over the past few years, I have been privileged to support women in many different situations and circumstances, including VBACs and water births. No two births have been the same, but in reality, very few women have the exact same idea of their "perfect birth." That is one reason why I love the variety of ways in which I am able to provide services to laboring women. With private clients, I develop an extremely clear understanding of each individual client's priorities and goals while providing useful resources and information throughout the prenatal period. The relationship that develops often extends weeks or even months into the postpartum period. Through the hospital programs, I am able to serve those clients who did not want, need, or possibly did not even consider, the benefits of a doula during their pregnancy, but who value that undivided support during their labor and birth. I have been told by many clients (some of which knew me for months beforehand and others who met me for the first time when they were well into labor) what an amazing difference my support has meant to them. I feel that God has directed me into this work and I definitely love it! While each birth is somewhat unique and extremely special, birth is also a very normal, healthy event – not something to be feared. Women's bodies are, in most cases, created with the strength and capability to give birth. It is my desire to help women have safe and satisfying birth experiences – births upon which they can reflect with joy and thankfulness.
As your doula, I will see to it that all goes as smoothly as possible during your labor and birth. Whether you need strong physical support, explanations of medical procedures, or just my gentle encouragement, I will be there for you. I will blend into the action, always being present in an unobtrusive way. My support is steady, strong, and calming. I will remain cheerful and encouraging, no matter how long your labor lasts. It is my goal to glorify the Giver of life through my willing service to you. I look forward to serving you during this special time in your life!
